The touristic aspect also plays a prominent role. The new Port-Louis Waterfront is expected to encourage and attract cultural tourism by capitalizing on the heritage and cultural environment of the Aapravasi Ghat World Heritage Property and in the same vein, channeling tourists to the Waterfront.

Under the third phase of the renovation of the Port-Louis Waterfront, the heritage buildings (Granary, ex-Military Hospital and adjoining buildings, Parcel Post) found within the buffer zone of the Aapravasi Ghat World Heritage Property will be rehabilitated to accommodate museums, art galleries, boutique hotel, restaurants and tourist-related facilities and services.
